Detailed relief maps of the world rendered from USGS GTOPO30 data

World Placenames

Placenames data originally comes from NIMA. It was converted into per-country ASCII files by Geocommunity. We imported data from the CD into a database, and then plotted every placename on a 4320 x 2160 pixel relief world map. Populated places were plotted as red dots, and other places - as cyan dots. Result is here:
