Q: After updating, the program stopped connecting to the Internet - stays "offline".

A:
Your "software firewall" (ZoneAlarm?) needs to grant permission to access the Internet to the new executable. ZoneAlarm knows that the quakemap.exe has changed, and your settings prevent it from asking permission for a new one.

There is a setting in ZoneAlarm where you define permissions for all programs; remove quakemap.exe from there and when you run QuakeMap again ZoneAlarm pop-up should ask you for permissions - select "allow to access Internet". To double-check, stop ZoneAlarm temporarily (right-click on taskbar icon at bottom-right, "Exit") and then run QuakeMap. You can restart ZoneAlarm later from the "Start-->AllPrograms" button.

Please keep in mind that many security/firewall/parental-control programs consist of a Network stack component and a User interface piece. When you shut down such program, the Network component may remain active and block Internet access without any notice.
